Dear Jangadeiros,
Despite its financial difficulties, the Brazilian Film Festival in Paris will be held. It will therefore open on June 20, 2017 at the cinema l’Arlequin . Here is a first glimpse of the great moments of the beautiful programming that awaits you!
Opening film: “Elis” , by Hugo Prata
Often considered the most beautiful Brazilian voice, Elis Regina has marked the history of popular music and has collaborated with the greatest. Andrea Horta, who plays her role in this biopic, won the award for best actress at the Gramado festival for her superb performance.
Closing film: “Chico, Brazilian artist” , by Miguel Faria Jr.
Friend of this major but discreet artist, Miguel Faria Jr. convinced Chico Buarque to let himself be filmed on a daily basis and to tell about his creative process. Archives, interviews and extracts from a concert organized especially for the occasion sketch the profile of a sensitive musician and writer, of infinite talent.
To stay in the music and celebrate fifty years of Tropicalism , we also invite you to discover a selection of documentaries, including “Tropicália” , by Marcelo Machado and “Rogério Duarte, the Tropikaosliste” by José Walter Lima. The first traces the beginnings of this musical and cultural movement, of this “island, this kind of idealized territory, of utopia” which emerged at the height of the dictatorship; the second looks at the case of Rogério Duarte, designer, musician, poet and activist who was one of the movement’s mentors.
Finally, a quick overview of the films more particularly chosen with young people in mind – but which will also interest their parents and teachers:
“Jonas and the circus without a marquee” , by Paula Gomes, takes us to meet Jonas, 13, who dreams of the circus while his mother, who comes from this background, would rather dream that he devotes her energy to the school…
“Gamin 23” , by Belisário Franca, accompanies a historian in search of the truth about a farm where 50 black orphans were held in slavery in the 1930s by a large family close to Nazi ideology.
“The Kings of the Lawn Mower” , by Emilio Domingos, takes his camera to the hairdressing salons of the Cariocas favelas and makes us take the temperature of the fashion of the moment, but also of the sometimes existential questions of customers and their hairdressers.
We will give you more news on the other films you will have the pleasure of seeing very soon, stay tuned!

19th edition of the Brazilian film festival in Paris
Posted on Monday April 10th, 2017 by festival
Dear Jangadeiros ,
We took our time to wish you a rewarding year, a year of sharing and joy, but not only: we have also decided to wait a bit to open the 19th edition of the Brazilian film festival in Paris – it will take place this year from June 20 to 27, 2017 .
This later opening is linked to the difficulty of making a budget allowing us to organize an event equal to the one we wish to offer you. We have therefore granted ourselves this extra time in order to have time to move heaven and earth with the support of the Brazilian Embassy and Air France. Of course, if you have any partner leads to recommend to us, they will be very welcome!
To end on a light note, prepare the summer in the most beautiful way and celebrate the music as it should be, here is a taste of the program: you will have the pleasure of celebrating in pictures the 50 years of Tropicalism , movement. cultural whose main figures are Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Tom Zé, Gilberto Gil or even Os Mutantes.
May tropicalist enthusiasm inspire us and give us the energy that will allow us to accompany the Brazilian Film Festival until its 20th anniversary; we are counting on your loyalty and support!
